shrinking a birdseye

O great and wonderful list.

I have taken on an old English upright action, not a birdcage, that
seems like it would play very well if I can get the friction down to
tolerable levels. I have tried all my usual shrinking ideas with no
luck, this cloth is a compact as it will get. Repinning is the
obvious answer. The trouble is that it is already pinned with 22 1/2
pin, bigger than I would normally use. I can pop them out and use 22
and the friction is great but they are way too loose in the butt.
Anyone have a great, quick and easy idea for shrinking the birdseye?
I tried hide glue sizing with no luck. The best Ive come up with is
to put in an 18 cp and drip in CA glue but thats very slow, I have to
push out the caul pin, trim the excess smooth (the glue builds up
around the pin) and then repin. Plus unless I hold the pin exactly
straight I can end up with the flange at an angle. Anyone dealt with
this before? I thought I might try steam tomorrow, followed by hide
glue to set the hole, another multiple step operation.
