Kawai Serial numbers

I have a list of serial numbers I got from Kawai (I think from their web
site) and 115xxx would be 1963 from that list.  However, there is a
caveat at the top that says "Serial numbers for different models are not
exactly sequential, so actual date could vary."

What is it with Kawai serial numbers? I have run across several pianos
in the central Illinois area with numbers like 115XXX. Pierce says these
pianos were made in 1964 but I know these pianos aren't that old. What
gives?
