I used to have my hearing checked by my mother, who was a speech and hearing specialist. She had a soundproof booth and her equipment tested to the limit of human hearing, near 20k Hz. I don't hear above 4k Hz, and never have. I have a hard time hearing the top notes on the piano, so I rely on my ETD to set them. I don't know how accurate a portable machine can be without a soundproof booth. I think Diane is also an expert audiologist, so she would know.
