I had my first opportunity to tune one of the new K series Kawai pianos today. It was a k-3, roughly the same size as a k-25 (46 inches, I believe). The action is quite striking: all carbon parts, with the exception of hammer and catcher shanks. Subjectively, I liked the feel better than any upright I've played, with the exception of an upright with the Fandrich action. It looks as if lead is gone from the keys. The only weighting I noticed (didn't take the keys out) was small stainless steel pieces embedded on the raised end of the white keys, one on each side of the capstan. My only concern here is that since the slide in and out vertically, they might be inclined to move with hard play. IN fact, there was one that appeared to be loose on the piano I tuned today. I am pleased with the way this company is on a continuous quest for improvement and advancement of the piano. Hats off to Kawai on this one!
