A bench setup with a monochord might be informative too, comparing angled, horizontal, and vertical terminations. It wouldn't be the same lossy mounting as a bridge on a soundboard (though that could be very roughly simulated too), but should give some indication as to whether bridge termination angle affects string excursion direction, and by what degree. Necessary, I'd think, for what could be learned. It would be a good chance to attach some real observation (one way or another) to the sea of "I've heard", and "In theory" "truths" that abound with no observational evidence or rational argument supporting them.
