I recall a New Kawai with buzz that stumped me. Under the keybed, and supporting the lyre was plenty of metal plate. I hypothesis they are using less wood in the keybed and are using metal plate to keep things nice and ridged. I have seen more then one piano from other manufacturers (china) with flexible keybeds, due to an acute lack of hardwood and mass, and no plates resulting in a spring for a keybed. Not being accustomed to looking for metal plate and bolts under the keybed, this buzz escaped me until I squandered more then enough time to inspire intense scratching of the frontal lobes. The buzz is transmitted through the piano and really did sound like it was coming from somewhere else. In the end it was this metal plate reinforcement.
