The old wife's tale is that Irving Berlin's transposer was specially built for him, and I have met people with a transposer who are convinced they own Irving Berlin's piano... I have an old German transposer in my clientele, and I have seen a few others. A dealer in the area had about four Heintzman transposers go through his shop in as many years. They are not one-of-a-kind by any means, but I admit they are pretty rare.
