Hello, Thankyou for writing these observations of hammer sounds. This is kind of opposite because it depends if their sound was already acceptable, but I found it illustrative to extend David Stanwood's chart with three lower groupings, that you can see with some examples in the right hand Excel chart http://www.freewebs.com/mireut/strain.gif ; the different weights and materials (the "l" in the legend means leather, "f" felt) look like they are connected with wire strength and tension seen in the other graphs, as well as how they act together on the sound board ("s" square, "u" upright, "g" grand) that might be suggested just by calculating loads due to deflection, shown approximated for 1.5 degrees in the few secondary drawings http://www.geocities.com/threesixesinarow/scales.htm (click on it...) regards, Clark Panaccione __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
