For drilling out and replugging the jack style you are talking about I use
round toothpicks and the appropriate size drill bit. The tapered ends let
you stick the plug in without pushing out the cord.

Avery,

I always carry a drill bit and a little pin vise around in case I have to do
a flange bushing repair. Turns out to be the right size for drilling out
an old jack plug and loop on an old Brambach-style wippen setup. (I forget
the bit size, and my kit's in the car...sorry!)

I fashoned plugs out of a hammer shank using my pocket knife, and used the
standard Schaff cord to make the loop. You need to use a healthy length of
thread and cut it afterward, otherwise poking it through the hole can be a
bit of a pain! Using a toothpick or other pointed object to get it through
saves time.

I did three of them in a little over half an hour. It was an on -the-job
learning experience, though. One of those where you say, "no problem"
before you see it, and you get there expecting a tight flange of some sort
or a low rep. lever.

Hope this helps.,

List,

I have a customer with a Baldwin SD-10 #269432, who now has a third jack
spring loop broken. I "think" that's what it's called. It's the loop on the
back side of the jack that the spring hooks in to.

Does anyone have a good way to redo those in the field? I usually take it
back to my shop and replace the loop but it would be a lot simpler if I
could repair it in the home. Any ideas? Thanks.

P.S. I'd like to just replace all the wippens and be done with it! :-)
