Recording Devices (off-topic?)

As a sort of P.S.: Isn't it interesting how microphone sockets (at least in
the UK market) disappeared off HiFi separate Cassette recorders!

Back in the 1970s and 1980s, when you would buy HiFi separates, Cassette
decks always came with two quarter-inch mic sockets, so that you could plug
in mics and make live recordings. There would be a manual level control
too, sometimes with separate Left and Right gain. At some point, those
disappeared. Cassette deck HiFi separates can still be bought new, though
there are fewer models. But you will search very hard to find one with mic
sockets.

That means that to make live recorings you would need to have a separate
mixer to pluc into a Line In at the back.

I am not sure if it's cheapskate-ness, or the fact that no-one _wants_
people to be recording their own music.

Best,

David.
