Just a thought but make sure there isn't something electrical "arcing" down there -- that's what I thought of when he used the word "snapping".

I have a very nice customer with a nice Kawai small grand piano..  Has a Dampp Chaser system (dehumidifier with humidistat only as is customary in FL).. and a home made string cover.    I've serviced his piano for several years, and just got this email.  It isv always only a few cents flat from where I left it last year.

I have a question.....recently, we have been hearing a popping, snapping, cracking noise coming from the piano.  It's intermittent and we hear it every few minutes.  Sometimes not at all.  At first, one night, I thought someone was in the house.  We finally decided it is probably coming from the piano.  Especially at night.  Does this ring a bell with you?  It's not real loud and that might explain why we hear it mainly at that time.  Just wondering what you think.  I don't see any parts falling out of it so that's a good sign.""

Other than the Humidistat making the slight clicking at it turns on the heater bars, I dont know what to think.  They do like to keep windows open.  Maybe temp or humidity cycling causes random clicks in wooden joints.  

Any helpful thoughts?  Please avoid Gremlin, Supernatural, or haunted lines of thought, unless you are speaking from experience.\
