plastic flanges

Hi, Joe, and anyone evesdropping ... you said, about elbows, "Wood is better than the plastic."

Why do you say that? With then general sloppiness and slowness of the wire drop-sticker action, what possible difference could it make?

Wood is better than the plastic. But the cost of replacing is much higher.
Got my last set of wood that replaces the plastic from Pianotec.
While they work, they are a little shorter. One needs to turn them into the wood 1/16" less
to keep the regulation of lost motion near the same.
If replacing with the plastic, tool # 317 makes easy work of the removal of the old elbow.

While tightening the plastic hammer flanges of a mid 40’s Mason/Hamlin, one of the plastic flanges broke.  Do I need to replace it with another plastic one, or would a wooden one be fine?

Any specific or weird dimensions to those flanges or are chances good that I can find one from my saved parts bin?
