Paul:

I agree there are dangers in talking on the phone while driving (or doing anything else while driving) but with a hands-free device that will dial on voice command I don’t think it is any more dangerous than talking to a passenger. Actually since you don’t have the temptation of turning to look at the passenger it might be safer. I have missed exits talking to my wife while she is with me. If they outlaw conversing on the phone in a car, they need to outlaw conversing with a passenger. I read the story in your link and I think they need to study in-car conversations too!

Actually, there are studies that show that using a cell phone while driving is actually like driving under the influence of alcohol. In fact, the studies showed that you are more impaired than using alcohol. Even if you use a hands-free device. I have actually missed an exit more than once while conversing on the phone. It's not like you're listening to the radio. Your mind goes somewhere else. Check out this link:

Let us know when you are on the road so that we can be sure to stay home.....

Actually, I think driving while talking on a cell phone is good policy, and I salute those who do.
