ergonomics

i have a problem with good lighting and working for more than a few  seconds 
in an uncomfortable position.
What have tech's found that works well for portable lighting?  I'm  thinking 
of trying one of those small OTT lights if I can sneak it from my  wife's 
sewing room.   
 
When doing work on a damper system, having a seat that is the right height  
would make life a lot better.
Also, getting right at eye level for doing regulation work is a great  help.  
Finding a stool, for example, makes it so much better.  But  what is 
portable?  
 
Any ideas.
