The piano wasn't too harsh sounding when I check it. I tried the Vice Grips on a couple of hammers that were standing out, didn't make much of a differences. Steam the shoulder on some, bit more range, but the unison were starting to beat a bit so I gave the piano a tuning. I check the sound again and it sounded much better. A lot of what she was hearing was a pianos starting to go out tune and was thinking it was the voicing problem coming back. The room acoustic didn't help, I really didn't take that much noticed before. Ceramic floors, drywall, and no drapes. With her environment problems she has to keep things neutral. The customer tried the piano and was happy with the sound. I explained to her about the acoustics of the room and how that will effect the sound of the piano. I suggested that she install drapes but, that is not an option. So far she seems to be happy with the results. I have a customer with a newer Chinese piano with harsh sounding hammers. I have tried chemical softener, needled and the piano still sounds bad. The customer has chemical sensitivity so I can't use anything in her home now. I was there a couple of weeks ago and used the steam method on the hammers and it work great. I was happy and the customer was happy, but today she left a voice mail saying the piano is harsh sounding again. How long will the steam method last? Will I need to do this often? I just want to have a happy customer with out having to swap pianos with her.
