Tom,

That is truly amazing, that the flutes--usually one of the hardest 
instruments to pick out in an orchestra and most likely to be buried by 
the other sounds--would seem too loud.

I had the same situation with the previous
conductor of the orchestra I perform with. His sensitivities were 
around the
flutes and he was always telling them to play softer and softer.
New
conductor comes in and not a word is said about the flutes.
