Helpful little trick

When putting a spinet action back into the piano, for example after an elbow
job, I like to wedge a screwdriver blade between the damper lift rail and
the wood, so that all the dampers come in as far as possible. The action thus
becomes a bit more compact and therefore easier to slip back into the piano.
Sometimes you can even get away with taking all the keys out before putting the
 action back into the piano.
But don't forget to remove the screwdriver once the action is seated!
