There is actually a factory tolerance for how much horizontal deflection is 
permissible with a named amount of side force. I used to know what it is, and 
it isn't much. Back before it escaped from my brain, I remember finding new 
shanks that met this spec when pinned at one gram. Whether that one gram is 
desirable or not, is quite a different issue. I don't think it's enough.
