As a piano instructor, I believe we right-handed should, even if it were
just once in a lifetime, have the opportunity to play such an instrument.
Maybe it would afford us a better understanding of how left-handed students
feel trying to play so much of the melody with the weaker hand instead of
the stronger one. Just a thought.

I agree totally. It is realy verry intersting to see the reaction of (good)
pianist who try to play on our double piano with left hand keyboard. (Museum
of musicinstruments in Brussels) and I am shure it can open someones mind
and maybe understand music differently. (as it can drive some musicians
nuts)

Only one right handed pianist was ready to play a concert and write a piece
for this particular piano. (we are still waiting)

I think this instrument has something to offer to composers and this little
story I spoke about some days ago made me curious :

A pianist was playing a piece from Stravinsky on this piano (these pianos)
first on the « normal « piano and than played the same piece on the reversed
piano (using the same finger positions).

Believe me or not but it suddenly sounded like a piece of Bach. So I wonder
if Stravinsky could have known such an instrument and just decided to turn
some Bach music backwards ???

The same guy than played a piece from Scott Joplin in major chord.

When playing the same piece on the reversed piano the chord became minor and
it sounded like a completely different piece of music (even if the structure
was the same) Quite funny.

Any thoughts ?

According to Fine in the '07-'08 Supplement pg28, Bluthner has built a piano
that is completely "backwards" especially for left-handed pianists. It
apparently was showcased in a concert where the pianist only had a few hours
to practice (I'd like to meet him/her.) This piano is reported to be
available by special order in 6'10", and 9'2" sizes.
