Michelle: Bid and keep your hand in, or not. But cover all your bases and make money. There's nothing like staying in business to be in business. If you lose the bid, then someone else is doing it for less than you reasonably can. Frankly, I would separate the installation cost from the purchase of the equipment since your installation cost isn't "wholesale". There are not too many places where the school district can get a piano truck. As Tom said, you are entitled to make a profit. But even if you charged them twice wholesale, don't forget, that's not all profit either. You had to take the time to get the phone call, place the order, receive the order, write the check, etc. etc. Then if you have to install the truck, and don't charge them for the time it takes to do that, the next thing you know, that piano truck just cost you money. I’m doing some contract work for a local school district and one of the schools needs a piano truck. Fine Arts is asking if they can get a wholesale price or if they need to take bids. I’m new to all of this. Do I sell it to them wholesale or go the longer (retail) route? Thanks for your advice.
