Hi Terry, Try a hair drier on the sluggish centers. They may have been poisoned at some time with wd-40 or other lube. Heating seems to "burn it off". Play the note constantly--and the heat and motion "press" the felt? A heat gun might be overkill because of the higher temperature it can achieve. Good luck with it.
