I'd clip the shanks (regardless of sound issues) as a diagnostic tool to 
get a sense of whether or not its mass she is after.  But before 
anything, I'd do a full set of touchweight measurements ala Stanwood to 
assess exactly what your touchweight parameters are. Static downweight 
is really not much to go on.
