Most methods of trying to clean them will simply ruin them. Someone
probably handled them poorly during manufacture or the copper sat around a
too damp environment before manufacture and started to oxidize. If the
customer is complaining and the piano is under warranty refer it to the
manufacturer. Likely they are not compromising the sound at all.

Subject: Bass strings-

Hello-

What is recommended for the cleaning of 8-10 bass strings that have slight
dark discoloration?

These strings are on a new piano and the spots/smudges are small/short in
length-

at present this is only a visual distraction.

Should I order new replacement strings or are there methods to clean these
strings.

Thanking you in advance for your kind advice.

-Lou
