Paul, thanks for your thoughts. I know how to make a paper pattern but thanks for the link. Maybe people are misunderstanding me, we only have about 4 strings that are dead. For this I will not put on a set of bass strings. Maybe others would but I can appreciate the situation this fellow is in. After all I was in the recording business for a while myself. The "oh lets put on new bass strings, regulate, install new hammers, bla bla bla don't work for some of these guys. You feed them that and they just say "I'll get a digital." I wish he would get all the work at once, but I know he won't. Thanks again for your thoughts man. If this guy is going to use the piano for recording, I would suggest a whole new set of bass strings. Contact Jim Arledge on how to make a pattern, so the owner of the piano will not be without the use of the piano for more than a day or two. Apparently some of my copies of the PTJ were lost in my move back to Cincinnati, so I don't have what I need when I need it. The problem strings are just a few bychords and the piano is an old Smith and Nickson art case. The fellow who bought it got a heck of a deal and it don't need a lot of work. We have to take care of these bass strings though. He will be using it in a professional recording studio and tubby bass notes just won't do. So other than the obvious turn and role what would any of you recommend?
