I agree...tip it on it's side...I'd put something like a piano blanket so it's not flat on the floor...gives you a little help in pulling it back over...

Wedging something under the piano tells you where the noise is coming from, but, of course, treats the symptom rather than the cause. I would suggest first , to tighten any screws you can that go into the bottom board. That would include the pelican spring and pedal brackets. Some vertical pianos have one or two screws through a flange at the bottom of the plate that goes into the bottom board. If the noise is coming from bottom board screws being loose, before getting the tipper, use a ratchet offset screwdriver, like Schaff's No. 4035 on page 82. With the piano sitting in its normal place, feel for the screw to the right of the pedal. When you feel it, press your finger in it hard enough to leave an impression. Look at it so you know what angel the slot is and just stick that tool under and tighten it up. I would definitely tighten the screws on both sides of the pedals. Tighten as many as you can reach without moving the piano. If there is not enough clearance to get your toll under, tip the piano back very slightly and support it with some scrap wood to give you room to work. If the noise is coming from cracks in the bottom board, than get the tipper, remove, repair and replace. Come to think of it, with a Lester spinet, I would not bother with a tipper. I would just lift the piano and set it on its side. If its not on carpet, put some padding under it. You might get someone to help, mainly to keep the piano from getting away from you as you lift. On a carpet, I do this by myself quite often. And really, I'm just a tall skinny dude. Its not as hard as it sounds, kinda like cow tipping.
