Also, Why are Steinways S,M,L,A,B,D, K,1098? etc?  Maybe "quarter-grand"
was a marketing buzz word??

Or, maybe they knew that would be their future worth!

My dad spent some time at the Steinway factory, thus was able to explain the current Steinway grand designations to me; S, M, L, B, D=  Small, Medium, Large, Big and Damn Big.  Never again have trouble rememberig the designations...
