Mowtown

No, she meant "Mowtown," the international proving ground for lawn tractors. Somewhere in Iowa, I'm sure, so I'm surprised you haven't heard of it.

Reminds me of one of the more interesting tuning challenges ... small rural church, summer, no air, windows open so you don't die, power lawn mower just outside the nearest window .... back and forth, back and forth ...

Julia,

Assuming you meant "Motown", I'd suggest you watch "Standing in the Shadows of Motown", a documentary about the backup musicians who created that wonderful sound. From their descriptions of the early days, I wonder whether the pianos were even tuned for sessions.... It might also give you some leads to who might have the answers to your questions.

And if you haven't seen it, check out "Buena Vista Social Club" for more marvelous music on poorly maintained pianos, particularly the playing of Rubén González.

Greetrings,

Does anyone know of any tuners that tuned for Mowtown? How can I find out what tuners were working on that area in that time? I wanna know if they tuned in ET, because things sound as if its NOT ET on ALOT of the recordings.
