Rick Yes, the lights have to stop in order to have the piano in tune. I don't know how long you've been tuning, but when I first started tuning with a SAT,?I found that my upper octaves were not where I usually tuned them. But after a while, I discovered I was actually tuning those notes flat. The SAT made me hear how the notes are supposed to be. Give your?SAT a chance to educate you. But more important, make sure you're tuning the right note, set to the right octave. It's very easy, sometime, to just look at the lights, and not the note and octave setting. I purchased my accu tuner about 8 months ago. When I first used it, I thought I might actually need to send it back. I was tuning a kimball and the diodes were going everywhere except where they needed to go. When I finally closed the lid, I had a fair tuning. However, I thought that if this was as good as I was going to get with this tuner, I may as well send it back.? ? The next day, I tuned my piano, a Baldwin Acrosonic. I couldn't believe the difference. When I finished, I had what I thought was a pretty good tuning. I need to know one thing though.? Slowing down the lights is easy; however, I need to know if the lights should always come to a dead stop. I am still trying to work out this issue, especially with spinet pianos. Any thoughts?? ?
