Hi David, It would be easiest to use a 120 volt fan. Polarity does not matter for fan direction but white wire should go to white wire and black to black. If there is a green wire that is for the ground. If you must use a low voltage fan look for one that can be powered by a "wall wart". So long as the tranformer has the same voltage and larger current capacity than the fan it will work just fine.
