The aluminum box beams are straight. The wooden cauls are cut to the specific rib radii and laid on the bottom beam. The inflatable hose conforms to the top of the rib which is fairly flat though tapered on each end as is SOP. The elongated wedges that are cut from the ribs with a band saw when they are tapered prior to glue up are set on the areas where they were cut from so that the end of the rib (which is now thinner) has adequate pressure from the hose.
