This bit me in the butt once. I tuned an undesireable upright for a piano teacher. She was happy when I left. 4 weeks later, she called me saying the piano sounded horrible. I returned to retune (thinking this was a regular paying gig...) Sure it was out of tune, but the piano had also been moved out of the room, floors refinished and piano pushed back in during a humid summer. Of course it was out of tune and explained it to her. She refused to pay me to retune. It's like those new customers who say "it was in tune when I bought it!" Oh well, Ignorance sucks! After six months, somebody calling and telling me it went out right away??? They should have called then. What can you possibly determine now? After six months you will undoubtedly find the piano out of tune. So what are you going to do? I think you should have nipped this one in the bud on the phone by telling them that they needed to call you six months ago since at this point you will not be able to determine what the problem was, that you can’t generally guarantee tunings because there are too many outside factors that influence tuning stability and it’s time for the piano to be tuned again anyway. The first one was about five years ago and the lady was a looney. I wonder how this one will shake out - it's been six months, but she said it "went out" right away after I tuned it. I know I shouldn't do anything for her at no charge, but I likely will - largely because of low number of complaints I've had. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
