Schaff does not farm out any bass string work. They have four to six winding machines, a similar number of full time employees who only make wound strings. They also have thousands of scale sticks and can make many strings with the right info, no samples needed. If a string buzzes, which will happen, but rarely, they will replace it. They are my choice for single string replacements. Recently I used Arledge for a couple of sets for Steinways. I am very happy with them.
