Just wanted to make a quick follow up here. Bout this string height minus hammer shank center-pin height protocol compared to making the hammer perpendicular to both shank and string, which essentially means the shank is on a parallel plane to the strings at impact. Say the string is a modest 2 degrees off horizontal. To make it real easy lets say we have a 100 mm center pin to end of the shank distance. The perp to perp protocol puts the center end of the hammer shank, and hence bore length at 3.5 mm higher then the string height minus hammer shank center protocol does in this example. Clearly these two have compatibility problems. Not to mention that 3-4 mm difference in bore length causes all kinds of niceties to pop up concerning blow distance, shank height at rest, angle of knuckle core to jack.... etc etc etc. Cheers RicB
