OT - Gas I gasped!

>>IF<< supply and demand is indeed the culprit for our increasing gas prices
in the US (we really can't complain too much given the much higher prices
the rest of the world has paid all along), remember that demand is when you
take that one-day round-trip flight to Christmas-shop at Mall of America, or
the weekend pass to see the Internet GF/BF on the other side of the
continent, or drive your SUV to the Mall to buy a new purse, then go back
the next day to return it and get a new pair of shoes instead, or your
spouse takes said SUV to arrive at work 30 miles away in rush-hour traffic
because corporate america management can't get its head around the notion of
staggered start times and telecommuting and 4 by 10 work weeks and being
family- and planet-friendly, or because there is no usable public
transportation to work place centers from the far-flung areas where families
are flocking to, or you drive a big pick-em-up truck 52 weeks a year because
you need it to pull the (gas-wasting) boat to the lake two or three times a
year.

There is much we could do to alleviate energy costs, and nothing that has
anything whatsoever to do with corn.
