More to the point, it takes automobiles a few miles to warm up.  Even here in Florida at hot summer temperatures, if you have a fuel monitor that reports gas mileage at five minute intervals, the mileage with be half in the first five minutes, what it will be in the second, all else being equal.  Of course, in sub-zero temps, it will take any vehicle longer to achieve its optimal operating temperature.

A beautiful thing about the advanced technology of the Prius is that it is one of the few, if not the only hybrid, that actually has a fairly large "thermos bottle" in its coolant system to sustain optimal temperatures longer than other vehicles, hybrid or not.
