Massive Pressure Bar

I tuned a new Heintzman 126 the other day and noted that the high 
treble pressure bearing bar was about three times as massive as the 
pressure bearing for the midrange of the upright piano.

I curious why this was done.  Anyone know about the thinking that 
goes into this?
