Apparently the metal from which these were made had too high a zinc content.? Zinc attracts moisture, and as a result we have the Amazing Expanding Brackets.?

Under normal circumstances, they don't need to be replaced. But Young Chang bought some action brackets from a supplier back in the mid '90's, that, for some reason, expanded. They not only literally grew, but some of them broke apart, as well,?

It is not known how many of them were made, but?grand pianos made by YC from about 1990 - 1994, which included Weber and Wurlitzer, and some other off brands, had these in them. YC accept responsibility for these action brackets, and will supply new ones, at no charge, but will no longer pay to have them installed.

One of the prime?symptoms of?expanded action brackets will be no let off.?A technician will notice a few hammers blocking against the string, and adjust the let off buttons to compensate, But after a while, that will not do the job. Some brackets have been known to grow so much, that the action cannot be removed from the action cavity. In that case, the only solution is to turn the piano upside down, and remove the keybed.

I hope that answers you question.

Greetings,

?

?

?????? Just out of curiousity, why would you have to replace action brackets? Aren't action brackets something that stay with a piano all its life?
