Mon ami,

A wafer is a thin piece of cloth impregnated with water soluble glue.
They are available in three sizes/shapes - oversized head, oversized
tail and even larger for end key tails.

Thinner than a communion wafer, but just as crisp.

Schaff calls them ivory cement wafers.
