Dear List, A unique instrument is available. I realize that this is a technical list, and not one where pianos for sale are usually posted. However, I feel that this is probably of enough general interest that most would want to see it. A Pleyel vertical piano, signed by Chopin, is for sale. Its present owner (for thirty years) has a provenance on it back to its initial shipment, which makes for interesting reading. There appears to be no question that the signature is genuine. There is a Web site dedicated to the piano, with its history, picture, and sound clips. At the end, it says, "To sum up, Pleyel #13555 is the only piano played and selected by Chopin, in excellent unrestored condition, fully playable, privately owned, available for sale AND BEARING THE COMPOSER'S AUTHENTIC AUTOGRAPH." There is also an article by the current owner on the Web site of the Chopin Foundation of the United States (_www.chopin.org_ (http://www.chopin.org) ). Look under "Publications" for "The Story of a Chopin Piano." This is obviously a special-interest piano, and the "right person" will have to hear about it. I suggested to the owner that I post it here, in hopes that one of our technical colleagues around the world would know of just the person, or would have a connection to a specialist in older European instruments who might. Anyone who is interested can contact the owner through the Web site, but I would enjoy any comments you might have. Thanks, Bob Davis **************New MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your destination. Dining, Movies, Events, News & more.
