Steinway scale

Hi John

That may be, but according to their website which yields a brief history
on the matter of the Miniature... the O, L, and M did not have any
strict definition and scales were altered somewhat several times as they
experimented with the design. Travis gives 2 scales for O's one with a
serial number that places it around the early 20's, the other without a
serial number. Further I have been told by the Hamburg factory
<<historian>> Mr Kalb himself that tho during that period much of the
actual manufacturing for all instruments started in New York, with final
assembly completed in Hamburg. Which explains why you find many
Steinways from the period with the squared off side blocks that on
record came from Hamburg. Just what the final assembly work done in
Hamburg entailed wasn't something we had time to get into, and I am
unsure at this point anyone really knows.

    According to a hand-out from S&S, the model O, 5' 10" was
    manufactured in NY 1900-1923. Hamburg 1901- Model L, 5' 10.5" 1923-
    . Not made in Hamburg.
