Hi Ed, I too refuse to work Saturdays (for the most part) EXCEPT for my college and emergencies required by them and possibly a few of my regular churches. I.e., a concert tuning required that Saturday, or for some special needs for a church or a sticking key before a performance or something like that. I agree with your sediments completely otherwise. Once you say yes, from that point on, people expect it. Especially if we don't charge extra for weekend work. I'm usually booked far in advance so I can't just take a day off the following week because it is already scheduled. I have often over the years - after all, plumbers, electricians, furnace companies, consumers electric and the list goes one - told clients that if I were to come on a Saturday, it is considered over time, therefore, time and a half or more. I don't do this for my college however. I charge my regular rate for them because they amount to about 25 - 30 % of what I do so I can cut them a break. If someone doesn't want to pay extra for Saturday work then it's no skin off from my back. I will often sub-contract the work out as well to another technician that is willing to work on a Saturday for a lower cost so I can make something on then too. As mentioned, I do all of the billing so my name remains on record, not theirs. After all, any business owner makes some profit off from any sub-contract work they send out. If not, IMHO, they should. It began as a favor to a customer who lived nearby, when they both began working away from home weekdays. Once you make a Saturday appointment, you have a customer who will demand Saturday only appointments, and it doesn't take very many of those to claim most (soon all) available Saturdays. How have others dealt with this? Ed S. _____ avast! Antivirus <http://www.avast.com> : Outbound message clean.
