Wim, New piano from dealer. They might have had it for a few years but it is basically their rental demo concert grand. Maybe the hammers assembly has been replaced, I don't know. As far as the blow distance, it was OK for regulation (just the right aftertouch). It was the first time I was working on this piano and maybe the last. The only reason the felt strip would have been placed there is to make up for the distance between the shank and the rest cushion. And the only reason the shank (and the hammer) is that high is for the string height to be more that where it should be, which I believe is about 7 3/4". (It's been a while since I measured this).
