Greetings list, A client of mine acquired a Lighte & Co. upright (serial # 72026) that appears to be manufactured from somewhere in the range of 1900-1940. I've looked in my Pierce Atlas (12th edition) and was unable to locate it. The closest I could find was a "Light & Co." without the "e" at the end. The atlas mentions that this "e-less" piano was made by Kelso. However, the Kelso serial numbers stop before the number on this one. I'm figuring this one might be a stencil piano of some sort. My client received the piano for free from an acquaintance that was moving out of state. Her only intent was to sell it and pocket some money. I told her I'd give her a rough idea of the value, but I'm unable to find anything close to compare. If it's not worth a lot, I thought I'd buy it from her and use it as a project piano to build up my skill set, being the newbie that I am. :-) Can anyone tell me anything about this piano? All 88 notes play. Ivory keys have some chipped edges. It was last tuned in 1979 and is from 75-100 cents flat so it seems to be holding pitch fairly well, especially since it hasn't been tuned in 30 years! There are about 7-8 missing damper felts in the bass, and about 30-40% of the bridle straps (leather) are broken throughout although the remaining ones look very dry and brittle. I didn't want to pull it too far apart during my short meeting with her today. Here's some pics... Thanks in advance for any help!
