Thank you to all for your responses to my question about getting wax out of a grand action. Thankfully none of the action centers were affected which makes the clean up so much easier. When I removed the action there was at least 4 of wax piled up in the very back of the action cavity .In fact, the wax melted sideways and missed the damper levers by about a ½. Whew. On the bright side I told the woman that it was the best smelling piano Id ever worked on. Thank you Paul for your Easter service ring of fire story. Made me feel better. Replace all felt that has wax on it, scrape was off wood - should be good to go. One thought - might want to take close look at any flanges that might have been in the line of fire (or rather drip) - like maybe the wippen flanges - wax probably wouldn't affect them anyway, but just a thought. Just looking to find out if anyone has dealt with anything like this before. The hammers and backchecks got the worst of it, but the back of the keys and the felt under the keys are also affected. My plan is to scrape as much wax off as possible and see if sanding the keys will clean them up sufficiently. It looks to me like the hammers and backchecks will have to be replaced, but thought Id see if anyone has any ideas. Thank you in advance for any advice.
