I have a 1850's Collard & Collard in my shop. No plate, but a metal strip across the bottom to support the hitch pins. Also notice the method the jacks are attached. I replaced some with pieces of drum skin. It's just to pretty to scrap. Well, no wonder!! Just like old street Barrel Pianos with no plates (to make the instrument lighter to move around on the street), it will have to be tuned just about every time you play it!
