I have had the distinct and ultimately joyful challenge of restoring a piano that had received the Bondo/black lacquer finish back to its beautiful rosewood. Give me the rosewood any day. The church felt the same way. They were incredibly excited when I discovered the original wood under the black lacquer and Bondo. It does not have to cost a lot to salvage the original finish on a piano. I was flabberghasted with those quoted refinishing prices. It does take some artistic creativity.
