[pianotech] ozone machines

I seem to recollect, that ozone and corrosion went hand in hand.
Is this my imagination?
If so, it might cause problems with metal parts.
Mind you, I have been proven wrong, many times before. :-)

This topic (removing smells from pianos) has gone around recently, with the same unanswered question regarding the consensus solution of ozone generators. Someone pointed to a website where they are offered for sale... I thought the site was full of, well, bits.

So here's the question (several questions, actually) again, hopefully a bit more succinctly asked...

a.. Has anyone used used an ozone generator to remove smells (smoke, rodent urine, mold, etc.) from pianos?

b.. What is the rated ozone output of your generator?

c.. How much time for what level of smell?

d.. Do you tent the piano? With what? Can the tent (tarp? whatever?) lay on the piano?

    e.. Brand? Supplier?

f.. Ever used it on pianos with tobacco smoke smells?

g.. Is a one-shot treatment permanent (assuming the mice stay away?)

h.. Potential hazards (like I understand that ozone essentially destroys rubber)?

It's not like I regularly encounter stinky pianos, but for that every once in a while one it would be nice. The machines that I saw on that site were not too terribly expensive... $400 range like Paul McCloud mentioned... affordable, but not something to buy with so little knowledge and no specific recommendations.

Again, I would call Jim Commander (he's in the Resource Guide). He uses a fairly small machine, I think he told me around $400. more or less. The machine itself is about the size of a toaster. I don't remember the brand.

The topic about getting smoke smell out of pianos got me interested in perhaps buying an ozone machine. They vary in price a lot. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with these devices. I understand they are not good to have running where people are, but I'm thinking it would be nice to be able to put one inside a piano and then wrap it up. Any ideas?
