I agree with you Will that setting action spread by jack position is not very definitive - who knows if the jacks were optimally placed originally (or with wear). However, don't trust the designer or factory either!!! Good place to start, for sure, but best to evaluate independantly. Having said that, I've done a number of bracket jobs and using YC's date designation for the two spreads has worked just fine for me.

  The owner has not played the piano for several years and recently moved to the area.  It is unclear as to how much the action was bastardized by another tech.
