As a CPA once told me, "You can't deduct money you never received".

Accurate records of what actually transpired?

A true valuation of services rendered?

  A record of charitable givings?

Professional reputation (Is your work warrantied if given for free or discounted?)

My point is, IMHO it's always a good idea to separate your bread and butter (business) from your charitable contributions (personal) and to keep accurate records of same. DAMHIK.

As to declared income and deductions, I suppose the difference would be roughly $0.00. Tthat's why I prefaced "If you really want to donate..." as in, if you really believe in a given charity, certainly donate. But don't devalue your skill set and profession in so doing.

If you really want to donate all or part of your work, why not just agree ahead of time to charge the full amount and then make a donation?

You can't. I asked my accountant that some years ago. Donated items, yes. Donated service work, no.

If this is different, let me know.

A better question is whether or not you can deduct the value of donated
