    I'll jump in here. Most , but not all laminated boards in verticals have the grain horizontal to the floor.That's one clue but if  you look at the hole(s) where the nose bolts pass through from the plate to the posts you can see a cross section of the board and observe laminations --or not.

  Thank you, that's a good angle to look at. How would one tell if a piano has a laminated soundboard and how could the delamination be repaired?
